The Alysh wrestling competition took place on September 10 at the World Nomad Games, the State Agency for Physical Education and Sports of Kyrgyzstan said.
The athletes competed for 6 sets of medals. The athletes from Kyrgyzstan have won 3 gold medals, including Maadanbek Sharshenaly Uulu (Kyrgyzstan-2 team), Myrzabek Kochkorov (Kyrgyzstan-1 team), Nurbek Akanov (Kyrgyzstan-1 team).
The teams of Turkmenistan and Tajikistan have won 3 gold medals each.
Mirlan Absatar Uulu (Kyrgyzstan-1), Shukur Ravshan Uulu (Kyrgyzstan-2), Kairat Mamatzakirov (Kyrgyzstan-2), Ahmatzhan Saburzhan Uulu (Kyrgyzstan-2), Chingiz Akanov (Kyrgyzstan-2), Kadyr Kelsinbekov (Kyrgyzstan-2) have won silver medals.
Mirbek Karabayev (Kyrgyzstan-1), Kubanych Makeshov (Kyrgyzstan-1), Asylbek Halmatov (Kyrgyzstan-1) have won bronze medals.
Ninety nine athletes from Afghanistan, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Lithuania, Mongolia, Tajikistan, Turkey, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan competed for the medals in the Alysh wrestling competition.
Alysh is a term for belt wrestling. It is an upright wrestling style. Competitors wear trousers, jackets and belts, and must hold on to their opponents' belts at all times. Their objective is to throw their opponents onto the mat. Throws are given scores between 1 and 6, based on what part of the opponent lands on the mat. The first player to win 6 points wins the match.
