Tengiz Sydykov, accused of smuggling of weapons from the US to Chechnya, was imposed house arrest by the court, the Foreign Ministry of Kyrgyzstan said Friday.
The Ministry said in a statement that the US authorities notified the Kyrgyz Embassy in US and Canada about his detention on March 1.
He was released from custody to be taken under house arrest by the court's decision on March 1, the statement said.
According to the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Eastern District of Virginia, 28-year-old Tengiz Sydykov and 27-year-old Eldar Rezvanov, both citizens of Kyrgyzstan, are accused of international trafficking in firearms, smuggling and other offenses. They were arrested on Tuesday.
On March 1, ex-Ambassador of Kyrgyzstan to the US Zamira Sydykova denied her son's wrongdoing and said he was just a roommate of Rezvanov.
