Dozens of innocent citizens of Kyrgyzstan stay in detention centers while waiting for trials, Ombudsman Bakyt Amanbayev said on December 1 at a round table discussion in Bishkek.
60% out of 15 thousand complaints from citizens the Ombudsman's Office receives falls at operation of law enforcement officers. More than half of them were particularly received from the people staying in the detention centers.
“These are systemic violations. We monitored all detention centers of the country and eventually prepared a report. Also, public hearings with the participation of Members of the Parliament and representatives of the public were held,” Amanbayev added.
The developed recommendations, as a result, were sent to the Parliament to change the situation of the people who are awaiting trials and spend years in detention centers.
