9 women, 4 young children of Jalal-Abad region from labor migrant families diagnosed with HIV

Labor migrants should be tested for HIV. People who are going abroad, must be checked before departure and after they return, according to chief doctor of the Jalal-Abad AIDS Center Elmira Satarova.

“The move is necessary in order to protect ourselves, the families and sexual partners,” she explained.

There are labor migrants who got HIV while working abroad, and has infected their partners and family members upon their arrival home.

For example, 9 married women and 4 young children were diagnosed with HIV in Jalal-Abad region.

“Some people come back to Kyrgyzstan out of case because they merely cannot work any more,” Satarova added.
