UNESCO will consider a joint nomination of Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan "knowledge and skills of building the Kyrgyz and Kazakh yurts" to the UNESCO Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
The UNESCO headquarter in Paris will host the 9th session of the Intergovernmental Committee for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage from November 24 – 28.
The session will consider, among the other questions, the first joint nomination of Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan for the "traditional knowledge and skills of building the Kyrgyz and Kazakh yurts."
Kyrgyzstan is the initiator and coordinator of this nomination, said the Kyrgyz National Commission for UNESCO.
In September 2012, at the invitation of Kyrgyzstan, a group of experts from Kazakhstan has visited Bishkek for studying the nomination. The sides have developed two joint nominations: "traditional knowledge and skills of building the Kyrgyz and Kazakh yurts" and “Aytysh, Aitys - the art of improvisation.”
So far, the UNESCO Representative List has 282 elements of intangible cultural heritage.
The 9th session of the Committee, which will begin on November 24, will study 46 nominations to the the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity, 8 nominations to the List of Intangible Cultural Heritage in Need of Urgent Safeguarding, and 4 nominations to the Register of the Best Practices.
The Committee session will be attended by the official delegation of Kyrgyzstan including Deputy Chairman of the National Commission of Kyrgyzstan for UNESCO MP Karganbek Samakov, Permanent Representative of Kyrgyzstan to UNESCO Asein Isayev, and others.
