Switzerland ready to provide support to Kyrgyzstan in conduct of parliamentary, presidential elections

President of Kyrgyzstan Almazbek Atamabyev and Swiss President, OSCE Chairperson-in-Office Didier Burkhalter made a statement for the press upon conclusion of the bilateral meeting held on November 22 in Bishkek.

President Atambayev said the visit of the Swiss President and Foreign Minister, OSCE Chairperson-in-Office Didier Burkhalter to Kyrgyzstan is the first such high level visit since establishment of diplomatic relations between the countries.

“Our views coincided an almost all discussed issues. Particularly, we have reached consensus regarding a disputable issue – public security project. We decided to extend it until the end of 2015,” President Almazbek Atambayev said.

He also thanked Didier Burkhalter for support and assistance Switzerland provides to Kyrgyzstan.

President Atambayev also noted successful presidency of Switzerland in OSCE this year. The President highly valued contribution of Switzerland into security strengthening in the European region.

Didier Burkhalter in turn noted a strategic importance of his visit to the Central Asian states. The Swiss President declared Switzerland will continue providing support to Kyrgyzstan in implementation of collaborative projects in various spheres.

Didier Burkhalter expressed readiness of Switzerland to provide support to Kyrgyzstan in conduct of the parliamentary elections in 2015 and presidential elections in 2017. “Kyrgyzstan deserves good support of OSCE. We have lots of plans and expectations about Kyrgyzstan,” Didier Burkhalter stated.

Almazbek Atambayev expressed confidence the visit of the Swiss President to Kyrgyzstan would give a new impetus to consistent development of bilateral relations in a broad range of areas.

He added that Switzerland, likewise Kyrgyzstan, does not host oil and gas, however it was able to achieve high living standards and economic development. “This proves that the main thing is not natural resources, but people and stability,” he emphasized.

The agreement was reached that Almazbek Atambayev will visit Switzerland in March 2015.

President Atambayev expressed hope for implementation of concrete Kyrgyz-Swiss projects in economic sphere.
