Relics of St. Nicholas will be delivered to Bishkek on November 26 by a delegation of St. Nicholas Charity Fund accompanied by Metropolitan of Tashkent and the Uzbek, Vincent.
The relics will stay at the Russian Orthodox Cathedral of Holy Resurrection until 30 November.
While in Kyrgyzstan, the relics will also visit other churches of the country.
Saint Nicholas was a historic 4th-century Christian saint and Greek Bishop of Myra in Lycia. Because of the many miracles attributed to his intercession, he is also known as Nikolaos the Wonderworker. He had a reputation for secret gift-giving, such as putting coins in the shoes of those who left them out for him, and thus became the model for Santa Claus.
Saint Nicholas is the patron saint of sailors, merchants, archers, repentant thieves, children, pawnbrokers and students. He was also a patron of the Varangian Guard of the Byzantine emperors, who protected his relics in Bari.
