Majority of those left for participation in Syrian hostilities are residents of Aravan district in Osh region, Deputy Chief of Aravan Police Department Alrashid Tokushev said on November 20 at a round table discussion on the religious situation.
However, the exact number of Aravan residents who left for Syria hasn't been specified.
Joint preventive work of law enforcement agencies with local authorities and public may suspend departure of young people to Syria, he noticed.
“It is better to prevent crime than to fight it,” Tokushev said. “Young people go to Syria if they have no right concept of religion. It is incorrect to consider participation in hostilities as jihad.”
Following the discussion, local authorities and law enforcement officers were instructed to strengthen community outreach against religious extremism.
