Chui Oblast Library will hold opening ceremony of English Access Microscholarship Program

Chui Oblast Library will hold opening ceremony of English Access Microscholarship Program for 30 children from Novo Pokrovka’s “AltynUya” Mercy House on October 30, 2014.

Cultural Affairs Officer Ray Nayler will deliver certificates of award to 30 first class of English Access Microscholarship students for their successful acceptance into the intensive, two-year program.

Ten Access alumni who finished the program this year will share about their experiences at the ceremony.

Funded by the U.S. Department of State and implemented by U.S. Embassy Bishkek and Chui Oblast library the Access program provides two years of English language instruction to 13–15 year-olds from disadvantaged backgrounds. Through after-school courses, intensive summer sessions, cultural activities and enhancement seminars, Access students acquire English language skills, improve their knowledge of the American culture, and develop greater sensitivity to cultural differences. The ultimate goal of the program is to increase the student’s opportunities in the formal economy and make them more competitive for higher education awards and scholarships in the United States and in other countries.
