U.S. Ambassador Spratlen congratulates Kyrgyzstani on Independence Day. The message says:
"On behalf of President Obama and all Americans, I would like to congratulate all Kyrgyzstanis as you celebrate your National Day. Twenty-three years ago, the United States was one of the first countries to recognize the Kyrgyz Republic’s independence. Since that day, we have enjoyed a growing friendship and partnership based on mutual respect, shared values and interests.
During more than three years in the Kyrgyz Republic, I have traveled to nearly every corner of your beautiful country. I have met with thousands of Kyrgyzstani citizens: government officials and proud citizens from all walks of life, Imams and farmers, students and teachers. Often I have heard the same sentiment expressed about your independence: that it is not easy, but it offers people real choice and opportunity in their lives.
The Kyrgyz Republic is unique in the region for building a strong and vibrant civil society, a diverse and outspoken media, and an increasingly open and transparent government based on democratic principles. The United States will continue to support the sovereignty and security of the Kyrgyz Republic, and we look forward to continued cooperation in coming years.
I wish all Kyrgyzstanis health, happiness, and peace this Independence Day".
