The world premiere of the film Kurmanjan Datka: The Queen of the Mountains was a success at the Festival des films du monde in Montreal (Canada) on August 22, the Embassy of Kyrgyzstan to the United States and Canada said.
The film aroused a big interest of organizers and participants of the film festival, residents of the city. The screening room of the Cinema Cineplex Odeon Quartier Latin was full. The film was received very positively by the audience. Viewers stood up and applauded for a long time after the end of the film, the Embassy said.
Film producer Jyldyz Joldosheva said the film is history of the Kyrgyz people. “We say with a big pride that the history of the Kyrgyz people had such a great, historical person as Kurmanjan Datka, who sacrificed her own son to save her people, which seemed to be an impossible thing for mother,” she said.
The film was shot without use of any computer special effects, film sets, she added. “What you have seen in the film, it is nature of Kyrgyzstan. The work on the film took almost 20 years: archive materials were collected, books were published, a documentary was filmed at first and only then the historical film was made,” the producer said.
