The Interior Ministry of Kyrgyzstan declared is does not aim to politicize the matter, naming the officials who have connections with organized crime groups.
Interior Minister Abdulda Suranchiyev at the extraordinary meeting of Ata Meken parliamentary faction on August 20 named the members of local councils, who are affiliated with organized crime groups.
However, the Interior Ministry's press service said local media erroneously interpreted information and called all named officials members of the organized crime groups.
“The names of local councils were named at the meeting of the parliamentary faction, who have ties with organized crime groups or who were earlier held criminally liable. The member of the Parliament of Kyrgyzstan, named among others, believes he was connected with organized crime group for political considerations,” the Interior Ministry said.
“The Interior Ministry does not pursue the goal of politicizing the matter. Besides, the general public demanded repeatedly to name officials who have connections with the organized crime groups,” the Ministry emphasized.
“For example, MP Bakytbek Jetigenov (Ar Namys). He is friend of crime boss Almaz Bokushev. They used to study together at the Kyrgyz State Physical Education and Culture Institute. The lawmaker maintains friendly ties with the organized crime group leader up to now,” the Interior Ministry stated.
