Mongolian Parliament adopts resolution on creation of Mongolian Embassy in Bishkek

Mongolian Parliament adopted a resolution on the expansion Mongolia Consulate General in Bishkek into an Embassy.

Mongolian Foreign Minister Damdin Tsogtbaatar submitted the draft resolution to the Speaker of Parliament that was backed by the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Security and Foreign Policy on February 1, 2017.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs forwarded its proposal to Kyrgyzstan which approved the promotion of the status of the Mongolian Consulate General in Bishkek.

Mongolia established diplomatic relations with Kyrgyzstan in 1992, since then bilateral ties have been continually developing in political field with increased frequency of reciprocal visits, Montsame reports. There are 18 agreements effectively regulating bilateral cooperation at present, and 10 more documents are on agenda. There is no political conflict between the two countries, and Mongolia considers Kyrgyzstan as its important partner in the Central Asian region.

The resolution was backed by only 69.2% as some of the lawmakers expressed concerns over the increase in the budget burden. However, MP J.Enkhbayar said the Embassy will not hire more people and will not bring extra burden on budget.

Currently, more than 50 Mongolians reside in the country with 500 people traveling to the country on average per annum. Bilateral trade turnover amounts USD 600 thousand.
