The October district court in Bishkek sentenced former MP Karganbek Samakov to 10 years in prison and fined MP Igor Chudinov 5,000,000 som on December 19 within the criminal case into illegal land transformation back in 2008.
Chudinov, a former PM, as well as ex-Deputy PM Iskender Aidaraliyev, former Agriculture Minister Arstanbek Nogoyev, former MP Karganbek Samakov and his son Kubanychbek Samakov were involved in the case.
In their last words, the defendants pleaded not guilty and demanded their justification.
Judge Damirbek Nazarov read out the verdict:
- Karganbek Samakov was sentenced to 10 years in prison and granted amnesty as of 2010 and 2011 years (the term is reduced by one/third by each of the amnesties);
- former President of Kyrgyzstan Kurmanbek Bakiyev and his brother Janysh Bakiyev were sentenced to 10 years in prison each in absentia. Due to existence of other sentences, Janysh Bakiyev was sentenced to life in prison, and Bakiyev - to 30 years imprisonment;
- Kubanychbek Samakov, Ernis Koichumanov, Urmat Nurdinov, Abai Tashtanbekov, Alikbay Sariyev were sentenced to 8 years in prison each and granted amnesties of 2010 and 2011 (terms were cut by one/third);
- Igor Chudinov and Iskender Aidaraliyev were fined 50 thousand calculated indicators or 5 million som each.
State prosecutors asked 11 to 19 years in prison for the defendants with confiscation of property.
The Prosecutor General's Office revealed that the transformation of the land plots in Baitik, Lebedinov and Kara-Jygach villages in 2008 from the category of "agricultural land" to the category of "land of settlements" was illegal. The persons listed above were involved in the crime.
