Road accidents in Kyrgyzstan occur more often due to speeding than driving while intoxicated. This was announced today during the emergency meeting of the Government on road safety.
According to Minister of Interior Ulan Israilov, 33% of the total number of traffic accidents occur due to the violation of speed limit. 24% of road accidents occur due to the violation of maneuvering rules, 11% — going into the oncoming lane, 9% — driving while intoxicated, he noted.
Prime Minister Sapar Isakov earlier said that there were 5,197 road accidents in the country over the last 10 months, which is 8.3% more compared to the last year. 695 people died and 7,839 people received injuries as a result, according to him.
