Authorities of Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan are considering the possibility of opening of a new Andijan — Osh — Kashgar road, Head of the Andijan region of Uzbekistan Shukhratbek Abdurakhmanov said on September 6 at the opening ceremony of the Dostuk-Avtodorozhnyi checkpoint.
Speaking to residents of both countries, said that he flew to Bishkek from Osh for the first time in 20 years and returned on the same route, centralasian.org reported.
"For the first in 20 years! You can pass through the Dostuk checkpoint simply by showing your passport. You won't need any telegrams or invitation to pass the checkpoint. Our main goal is to make conditions for people to safely walk to each other's houses," he said.
On September 6, a 2-day visit of President of Uzbekistan Shavakat Mirziyoyev was completed. As part of this visit, the Presidents of the two countries signed a number of documents, including the agreement on Kyrgyz-Uzbek state border.
