In Kyrgyzstan, the number of new HIV infections continues to increase by about 10% per year, the press service of the Ministry of Health of the Kyrgyz Republic reported.
As of June 1, 2017, 7,227 HIV-positive persons were registered, including 7,38 citizens of the Kyrgyz Republic, 595 children and 902 AIDS patients.
The prevalence of HIV infection by more than 5% among key populations (drug users, prisoners and MSM (men who have sex with men)) determines the second - a concentrated stage of the epidemic in the country and affects the overall situation.
"The sexual transmission of HIV is increasing from 31% in 2011 to 51% in 2016 among newly-identified individuals, and the number of HIV-infected women is increasing. HIV affects mainly people of working age (20-49 years)," the report says.
