The incidence of tuberculosis continues to decrease in Kyrgyzstan

At the initiative of the Ministry of Health of the Kyrgyz Republic, the National Center for Phthisiology and with the support of USAID's Defeat TB project, a press cafe was held on topical issues of TB prevention, diagnosis and treatment in Kyrgyzstan.

This event was held within the campaign on fighting tuberculosis, which has started in Kyrgyzstan on March 1, under the declared motto of the WHO "Together we eliminate tuberculosis: we will not leave anyone without attention" and timed to the World TB Day, which is celebrated every year on March 24.

At the press café, a constructive dialogue was organized between the specialists of the TB services and their partners in the form of state institutions, social workers, NGOs, international organizations involved in tuberculosis control in the country, and media workers.

According to preliminary data of the National Center for Phthisiology for 2016, the incidence of tuberculosis declines gradually in the Kyrgyz Republic. In the reporting year, 5,653 newly diagnosed TB patients were registered compared to 5,853 in 2015.

The indicator of the level of mortality from tuberculosis in the republic in recent years also tends to gradually decrease. In 2016, the death rate for the republic was 5.8 cases per 100 thousand people compared to 6.3 cases per 100 thousand in 2015.
