Kyrgyzstan demands Kurmtor gold mine to compensate 15 billion som for environmental damage, Chairman of the State Agency for Environmental Protection and Forestry Abdykalyk Rustamov told the meeting of the parliament committee for agrarian policy, water resources, ecology and regional development on March 6.
"As for the environmental damage Kumtor did, we filed a lawsuit demanding 15 billion som in compensation. Right now, the case is being considered by the interdistrict court [of Bishkek city]," said Rustamov.
MP Mirlan Bakirov wondered if Rustamov would bring this case to the end.
Rustamov said that the "Agency has been providing information since 2011 and raising issues."
