Kyrgyz President Almazbek Atambayev congratulated power engineering specialists on their professional holiday - the Day of Energy of the Kyrgyz Republic.
Kyrgyz President's press office reports that Atambayev in his greeting named the domestic energy one of the leading sectors of the national economy.
“For the first time in its history Kyrgyzstan gained energy independence. A strategic project is completed to create the country’s own electricity ring. This project was, in fact, the project of the century for our energy,” he said expressing confidence that future generations will appreciate its importance for the country.
The next step, he said, is the construction of new generating facilities, reconstruction of existing hydropower plants, power grids and consistent energy savings.
Atambayev also said that Kyrgyzstan is not only one of the recognized leaders of the hydropower market in the region, but also has a high potential for renewable energy sources. “Our goal is the creation of new, environmentally friendly technologies, on the basis of which we will be able to use the sun's energy, small rivers and streams, wind power, geothermal energy and biomass treatment.
“If we successfully cope with this problem, I am sure that in the near future Kyrgyzstan can become a regional hub for the export of clean energy and make a significant contribution to tackling climate change,” he said wishing good health and happiness, prosperity, inexhaustible energy and the implementation of all professional plans.
