The European Union Film Festival jointly organised by the Delegation of the European Union to the Kyrgyz Republic and the Embassies of the EU Member States will open its doors on 20 to 24 April 2016 at the Ala-Too cinema.
The Festival will show 18 films from the following EU Member States: Austria, Bulgaria, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Estonia, France, Germany, Great Britain, Hungary, Italy, Latvia, Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain and Sweden. The prize-winners of numerous international film festivals are among the Festival's films. The European Union Film Festival is an event that aims to strengthen ties between the European Union and Kyrgyzstan.
This year, the event will be marked by films of very different genres. The 2015 Golden Globe and Oscar Foreign-Language Nominee, the Estonian-Georgian military drama "Tangerines" will open the Festival. One should also outline a documentary film on the Asian travel to Kyrgyzstan of Count György Almásy. This work by Hungarian film director David Shomfai Kara will tell about social, cultural and political changes in Kyrgyzstan over the last 100 years.
In addition, the audience will not left untouched by such films as: 2016 Oscar and other international awards nominee, British documentary film "Amy" – the story of life and death of a singer Amy Winehouse, the same goes for the French comedy "Chinese Puzzle", which'll show that life and reality are not what we want them to be. MPs, representatives of Ministries and State Bodies of Kyrgyzstan, Embassies and International Organisations, cinematographers and representatives from other areas of culture and education are invited to attend the official opening ceremony.
