Chinese city of Urumqi hosted the ceremony of opening of the trade house Kyrgyz Baly (Kyrgyz Honey), Tazabek reports citing the Ministry of Agriculture and Land Reclamation.
The Kyrgyz delegation led by Minister of Agriculture Turdunazir Bekboyev, as well as representatives of the Kyrgyz government took part in the ceremony.
Honey production in Kyrgyzstan is widespread, especially in Issyk-Kul region.
In 2015, 1,000 ton of honey was produced in Issyk-Kul region, according to Askhat Galiyev, chairman of the Association of Beekeepers.
500 tons of honey were produced in 2014.
Kyrgyzstan exports its honey to various destinations around the world, including China. "Honey there [in China] costs 3,000 soms per 1 kg, while 1 kg of honey is sold for 250-300 soms in Kyrgyzstan,” according to Ganiyev.
Over the past 12 years, the number of beekeepers in Issyk-Kul region has increased from 150 to 1000, said Galiyev. "Beekeeping industry in the region is recovering." “We train young people how to work properly and tell them about the ways of selling the products,” he said.
