MP Bakyt Torobayev has today proposed the Government to increase the tariff for electricity for the Kumtor company up to 2.56 soms per 1 kWh.
Speaking at a meeting of the Onuguu-Progress faction, Torobayev criticized medium-term tariff policy of the Government.
According to the MP, Kumtor gold company consumes up to 1 billion kWh of electricity a year at a price of 2.24 soms per 1kWh.
"The tariff for the company must be increased up to 2.56 soms. Don't torture people, they should rather be switched to social tariff," he said referring to the medium-term tariff policy, which assumes that only those who do not pass the 700 kWh limit pay 0.77 soms per 1 kWh.
In 2015, Kyrgyzstan has to import electricity from Kazakhstan at high price of 5.15 soms. The country has also imported energy from Tajikistan during the summertime, he said.
"But it seems like you are charging people even when the country didn't import energy as the imports were included in the tariff calculation. Kumtor consumes 1 billion kWh, which is one-tenth of electricity consumption in the whole country, but when it comes to paying bills, it is always people to pay," he said.
The faction members urged the Government to revise the medium-term tariff policy.
