Some 6,402 HIV positive persons were registered in Kyrgyzstan by January 1, 2016. This information came from the meeting in the Health Ministry summarizing outcomes of work of medical facilities in 2015.
This figure includes 6,110 citizens of Kyrgyzstan, including 554 children and 831 people with AIDS. Injecting drug users make 51.5% of people with HIV.
Rise of HIV infection rate among women and sexual transmission of HIV was noted. Discrimination against people with HIV remains high.
605 people were tested HIV positive in 2015 (versus 612 in 2014). The working age population comprises 67.1% of all people with HIV.
HIV infections are registered in all regions of the country. The biggest number of people with HIV has been registered in Chui region (29.7% of all registered), in Osh region - 19.2%, Osh city - 15.8%, Bishkek - 15.4%. The smallest HIV infection rate is reported in Talas (1.36%) and Naryn (1.69%) regions.
