The Ministry of Labor and Social Development and the UN World Food Program have improved the lives of more than 90 thousand people from low-income families in 2015, said Minister Kudaibergen Bazarbayev at the meeting on January 22.
He said that more than 340 projects were implemented in 54 rural areas across the country last year, reported the Ministry.
"More than 572 km of irrigation networks were restored in the framework of the project, thus more than 47 thousand hectares of agricultural land were put into operation. Farmers were able to use a large area for growing crops, which will improve regional food security. The project will provide support to more than 274 thousand people," said the Minister.
World Food Program Country Director Ram Saravanamuttu noted that the program will be expanded in 2016, which will support the most needy households.
“The UN WFP will continue its close cooperation with the Ministry of Labor and Social Development at both central and local levels focusing on the issues concerning social protection, rural development and disaster risk reduction and adaptation to the climate change,” he added.
