UNICEF Office in the Kyrgyz Republic provides 25 winterized tents, 1000 hygiene kits and school supplies for more than 1,500 children to the quake-affected southern districts. The aid is provided in response to to the request of the Ministry of Emergency Situations.
UNICEF in cooperation with other donor agencies is assessing the needs. The next assistance will be targeted at women and children.
Young children and women, especially pregnant women, are affected most of all in any emergency and need most attention. It is important not only to meet their basic needs, but also to provide psychological assistance. It is necessary to make everything possible so that children and families stayed together without family split, UNICEF Representative Yukie Mokuo said.
